THE BEST BARS IN VENICE

A hip bar scene isn’t what you usually think of when you consider visiting Venice, but if you’re lucky enough to spend a few days in La Serenissima you’ll find spending an hour or two watching this beautiful world of water go by in one of these cosy bars and absolute treat.

What do we look for? A buzzing vibe, inspired decor, and a great beer/wine list priced under €5 - and if alcohol isn’t your thing, scroll to the end where we’ve mentioned our favourite little cafes that we returned to again and again.

Santa Croce

Majer Venezia - our personal pick if you’re after something a bit special. You’ll be assisted to find the perfect wine (the variety on offer changes regularly, so theres no menu) and you can order delicious fresh tapas or a board with a selection of cheeses and cold cuts to go with your glass.

Osteria da filo - a place for casual drinks, and free wifi that actually works!

Cannaregio

Un mondo divino - if you’re after good drinks at low prices, and great nibbles

Ai divini - features on some of the ‘pub crawl’ tours of Venice because it’s got great decor, nice nibbles, and a good wine selection, but the pourings are pretty dismal

Il Santo Bevitore - small bar, good craft beer selection

Vino Vero - Fun local wine bar with generous pours

Birreria Zanon - Great place to sit by the canal on a sunny day

Castello

Osteria al ponte - wine bar and expensive tapas (it’s technically in Cannaregio but is closer really to the hotspots of Castello)

San Marco

Devils forest pub - If you want something more ‘pub’ like, this is a solid, traditional, British-style option near the Rialto.

Osteria al Alba - cute wine bar with limited seating and (usually) generous pours

San Polo

Vizzieto and La Bottiglia - two simple wine and beer bars side by side with outdoor seating in a small campo

Prefer coffee?

San Marco

Favini - a popular little chain for breakfast and lunch. The coffee isn’t as mind-blowing as Torrefazioni but it’s still good.

San Polo

Cafe Del Doge - this place was good 10 years ago, and it’s still serving up great coffee near the Rialto

Cannareggio

Torrefazioni - incredible coffee with a range of blends. The decor and cakes are also top notch.
